"With just the right touches of humor to balance the sentiment, Sala neatly encapsulates motherhood."  -Kirkus

I started my career writing TV commercials about burgers and cars. I wanted to make people laugh. I didn't realize I could also make so many people cry.  In 2016, one of my commercials went bonkers viral for making moms everywhere tear up. It was then I was able to convert that commercial script into my first children’s book, You Made Me a Mother. Since being suddenly thrust into the picture book world, I set to learn everything about it. I studied at every SCBWI conference I could. I got a wonderful, badass agent (Kelly Sonnack), and I continued to write. I released You Made Me A Dad a few years later and then moved into writing a bilingual picture book series, and other character-driven books (2 more out in 2027). I have so much more in the works that I can't wait to show you!

If you have a picture book you’re looking to write, I’d be happy to meet with you, talk about your idea, and give you advice on how to get it published!  In the meantime, check out all my books:

You Made Me a Mother

An ode to motherhood, this perfect little baby shower gift has been known to make many moms cry. Illustrated by the great Robin Preiss-Glasser, it's sweet drawings show a mom as she prepares for her little one until that same baby begins to learn how to walk away. Yes, you can get it on Amazon, but check it out here.

You Made Me a Dad

This book celebrates fatherhood, because we can't forget the dads. They walk us around on their feet and teach us what makes good music. Illustrated by Mike Malbrough, the most beautiful world comes to life as we get a sweet little peek into what it's like to be a dad. Get a copy here.

Mi Casa Is My Home

Lucía welcomes you into her home where she lives with her big, loud, beautiful familia. In this cute book written in Spanglish, you'll get to see the cocina where Mamá performs milagros. And the baño, where she shaves her barba con abuelo. Whether you're learning Spanish or already speak Spanglish like me, you'll love this cute little family, illustrated by Zara Gonzalez-Hoang. Mi Escuela Is My School

I still haven't gotten to hold this one in my hands, but it will hit shelves in July 2026! This time, Ramón takes us on a tour of his school and library where he sits at the big table to make cards, crafts, and sometimes... mistakes. Also written in Spanglish and illustrated by Zara Gonzalez Hoang, Kirkus says it's "a cheery first glimpse at school." Get one here!

Harry the Harriest

Harry is the absolute cutest little monster. He happens to have a lot of hair, and that's all anyone can ever focus on. They never even notice his art, or his thoughtful 'thank you' cards or the fact that he can do three somersaults in a row with no hands. Finally, he meets a very tall monster, and together they decide to focus on the more important things. Eee! He's so cute. Illustrated by Isabella Kung. Out in 2027!

An Altar for Abuelo

Grief is a topic that I believe we should talk about more openly. That's what the family in this book decides to do. They celebrate Abuelo's birthday even though he's not there to play his guitar and give his warm hugs this year. Instead, the family makes him an altar and they put all his favorite foods on it, even the cinnamon rolls he used to get from the mall! Coming in 2027! Pre-orders are here!
